STEP 01

Set the transformer

Use the switch on the PCB to select where in the signal chain the Transformer will sit.

Setting the switch to INPUT puts the Cinemag transformer on the RETURN or after your effects (we know it's kinda confusing).

Setting the switch to OUTPUT places it before the SEND so it affects the signal to your effect pedal loop.

BYPASS removes it entirely.

STEP 02

Seat the module

Slide the EL&R into any open 500 series slot. API, Radial, Neve, Lindell — any standard frame works. Power comes from the rack.

Take note of the DIP switches to set them how you want. We recommend starting with the Ground Lifts ON, Variable Impedance, and Transformer Input to start

Connect your pedals

Run a cable from the SEND jack to your first pedal's input. Run your last pedal's output back into the RETURN jack. That's your effects loop.

If you need to power your pedals, use the included DC cables and connect to one of the front panel DC jacks. Make sure you set the Voltage correctly for the second output, it can be set to 9V or 12V with the switch.

Set your impedance

The INPUT IMPEDANCE knob adjusts between 68k and 10k ohms. Start at noon and adjust by ear. Higher is brighter. Lower adds weight and warmth.

Trim your levels

Use INPUT GAIN to match your source. SEND TRIM controls the signal hitting your pedals. RETURN GAIN brings the wet signal back to line level. Set by ear.

The front panel LEDs will also give you an indication of the levels. Red will be clipping, yellow close to clipping and green is clean.

Reamp a track

Route your track to the EL&R INPUT which will appear on the SEND jack. The RETURN routes to the OUTPUT of the module.

Arm a track and press play (with input monitoring on) to hear the reamped signal. Record and tweak live!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Good questions. Here are the answers.

Yes. Any standard 500 series frame will work like API 500 Series, Radial Workhorse, Neve 8804, Lindell 506, and others. If it takes a standard 500 series module, the EL&R fits.

No. The EL&R is entirely analog. Route to your 500 series rack just like any other module, not as a device your computer needs to see. Plug in and it works.

Any standard effect pedal will work. And if it has a 9V or 12V input, the DC power cn power it. Fuzz, reverb, delay, overdrive, chorus, phaser, tremolo — all fair game. The DC power outputs on the front panel run two pedals simultaneously.

INPUT puts the Cinemag transformer before the RETURN so the wet signal passed through the transformer.

OUTPUT places the transformer before the SEND so the warmth and saturation gets added before your effects.

Use INPUT if you want a cleaner send and warmer return. Use OUTPUT if you want the transformer character on the full effects chain. BYPASS removes it entirely if you want the most clean fidelity for amplifer reamping or clean effects chains.

Absolutely! Connect your DAW output to the SEND jack and run a 1/4" cable into your amplifier. The EL&R is now a Reamper. Mic up your amplifier, arm a track and hit record!

We love playing with the transformer and impedance options here fo the best tone!

First check that the DC output voltage switch matches your pedal's requirement — one output is fixed at 9V, one is switchable between 9V and 12V. Check the cable connection. If the pedal still doesn't power on, try it with a standard wall wart to confirm the pedal itself is working. Contact us if the issue persists.

Start by checking your cable runs. Long unbalanced cable runs can pick up interference. If you're getting ground loop hum, try the GROUND LIFT switch on the back panel. Make sure your pedal power supply isn't shared with other noisy gear. If the issue persists after checking these, get in touch.

No. BYPASS removes the transformer entirely from the signal path. The signal passes through the impedance matching circuit but gets no transformer character. It's as clean as the circuit allows.

Yes. You can chain as many pedals as you want in series between the SEND and RETURN jacks. The two DC outputs on the front panel power two pedals. For additional power, use a standard effects power supply alongside the EL&R.

One year from date of purchase. Full details in the warranty section below.

Warranty

One year. No nonsense.

Every EL&R 500 is covered by a one-year limited warranty from the date of original purchase. If your unit develops a defect in materials or workmanship within that period, we'll repair or replace it at no charge.
What's covered
Manufacturing defects. Component failures not caused by misuse. Anything that goes wrong under normal recording and studio use.

What's not covered
Physical damage from drops, liquid, or improper installation. Damage from operating the unit outside its rated voltage. Modifications to the unit. Normal wear on knobs, jacks, and switches after extended use.
How to make a warranty claim

Email us at [email protected] with your order number and a description of the issue. We'll respond within one business day. In most cases we'll ask you to send the unit back to Summerville and we'll sort it out from there. We cover return shipping on valid warranty claims.
Out of warranty

If your unit is out of warranty, we still want to help. Contact us and we'll give you an honest assessment and a repair quote. We'd rather fix it than have you stuck with a broken unit.
